Cargo! The Quest for Gravity
Cargo! The Quest for Gravity
Das aussergewöhnlichste Action-Adventure des Jahres!
The Gods haven’t looked too kindly on humanity and Earth, as we know it, has been reduced to a group of island archipelagos, populated by “BUDDIES” – pint-sized creatures, unbound by gravity’s forces and free to float and frolic at their own whim and leisure. The Gods have given the BUDDIES free reign over these colorful islands for their own willy-nilly, topsy turvy pleasure. But, there is a way to stop them ….FUN is the secret ingredient that will ground the BUDDIES and return gravity to Earth. As one of Earth’s last human survivors, it’s up to you to dish out a healthy dose of amusement to restore order on Earth.Do you have what it takes to outwit the BUDDIES and win back the favor of the Gods?

The Gods
The Gods, or Manipu, the creator, wanted to speed up the evolution a bit. They created the buddies and now only need to get rid of those troubling humans. Due to some … clerical problems … the planned flood didn’t really work. So they decided to abolish gravity instead. It was somewhat of a setback for their plans when not only the humans did get sucked into space but quite everything else as well. At least they have a backup plan … if they could just remember where they put it.

Flawkes
Cargo! Flawkes
The lead character, protagonist. She is an engineer in training, good at fixing things, not so well at talking to gods and self-centered captains. Flawkes has a straightforward ’with both feet on the ground’ attitude towards things. Naturally the current ‘everything is just flowing around without weight’ situation isn’t really her thing.

She also has a mechanical brain. Why? She does not know. It is hard to remember the time before you had a brain, after all. But one thing is for sure: the brain has come to stay!

Captain Borkin
Cargo! Captain Borkin
When the world lost its gravity most people panicked. A few stayed calm and tried to adjust to the new situation. Captain Borkin immediately saw the great opportunities it presented. With all his competitors slowly floating away the markets of the world should be easy game, shouldn’t it?

Borkin considers himself to be an honest but efficient merchant like the great captains of old times. Everyone else considers him to be a twit.
Buddies
When the gods decided to replace humankind they specifically wanted to get rid of egoism and sincerity. From that point of view the creation of the buddies was a huge success.

The buddies are enthusiastic, human-like, fearless … and would gladly walk in any slaughterhouse out of pure curiosity, or to keep company. Most of all they love to fly. And to fall to their death, unfortunately.

Buddies are also the only known source of FUN, a mystical substance that can return gravity.
Buddie Band
The emerging buddy society has already spawned different classes. But while humans did use unpractical, simple attributes like power and wealth to distinguish themselves, the buddies use a more refined system. Can you provide enjoyment or not? The buddy band have earned themselves the idolatry of every living buddy, providing music and joy. Or would have, if buddies could feel that emotion.

„“Cargo! is a game worth playing. It's a singular experience in a unique world that's pretty much worth the entry fee on its own. In the end, you're going to get out what you put in, because the fun (FUN) is had in creating monstrous, convoluted and quite possibly functionless vehicles. It's about putting a life-saver directly underneath a helicopter blade, and then putting your palm to your face when the buddies get tangled in the rotors. Fundamentally, it's about having FUN – because FUN is important.““

“(…) it delights and surprises at every turn as it propels you through its frankly baffling narrative. Much like Ice-Pick Lodge themselves, you'll never quite be able to predict what it's going to throw at you next.”
